Description
Piano accompaniment track available on Jennie’s YouTube channel.
This flexible string duet arrangement features two interchangeable string parts (violin, viola, or cello) with flowing piano accompaniment. Designed for early advanced players and above, the arrangement balances lyricism with gentle movement, making it ideal for church services, recitals, or sacred concerts.
A personal note: when we were children, my father would take out his guitar and sing this song to us night after night. The arrangement by J.A.C. Redford was his favorite, and we listened to it for years. As an adult, this became the first arrangement I composed for my trio, Salonnières, modeled closely on Redford’s. I later arranged it again for violin solo and piano so that my mother and I could play it at my father’s funeral. Not long afterward, I had the privilege of speaking with Redford and sharing what his arrangement has meant to me and to my family. It was an honor to hear him speak so generously and lovingly about music, his own family, and the ways they intertwine.
