Description
This arrangement for soprano, violin, and piano was originally commissioned by Salonnières as a part of a set of folk songs from the British isles. It was later included on their self-titled debut album.
On a more personal note, this song has always been part of my family history. Afton was my grandmother’s name, my middle name, and my daughter’s name. We have ancestors from the region near Afton Water, the river that inspired this poem, and singing this song to my baby daughter always helped me feel connected to my own family’s roots.
